Green Tourism has been assessing travel, tourism and hospitality businesses for more than 27 years, awarding bronze, silver and gold certifications following detailed, independent assessments. Achieving Gold represents the highest standard and reflects a consistent, whole-team approach to sustainable operations.

Our Journey from Bronze to Gold

Our Gold accreditation marks an important milestone for the hotel. We were awarded Bronze in 2023, Silver in 2024, and have now secured Gold within three years.

Over the past year, we have made significant progress in reducing waste and improving efficiency:

• Around 59% of our waste is converted into energy for the National Grid
• 33% is directly recycled
• The remaining 8% is anaerobically digested, meaning zero waste is sent to landfill

These measures sit alongside wider initiatives designed to reduce environmental impact while maintaining the calm, restorative experience our guests expect when staying with us near Cheltenham.

Supporting Wildlife Across Our Grounds

Set within peaceful countryside on the edge of the Cotswolds, we are fortunate to be surrounded by a rich natural environment. To support local wildlife, we partnered with the Men’s Sheds Association to create handmade bird boxes, now installed around our grounds to encourage woodpeckers and other native birds to nest.

We have also planted a variety of perennial plants, including lavender, heather and climbing species, to provide long-lasting food and shelter for wildlife throughout the year, helping to nurture biodiversity across our gardens.

Community Engagement in Cheltenham

Sustainability at The Greenway extends beyond our environmental efforts into the local community. We recently welcomed pupils from Bettridge School for a baking masterclass with our Head Chef, Abhijeet Dasalkar, followed by a tour of the hotel grounds, offering insight into hospitality, food and nature.

We have also supported local fundraising initiatives, donating £400 to iSing Choirs to help their work raising funds for Prostate Cancer UK.
